To support bus route scheduling and online mapping applications, Community Transit has a unique set of editing and data maintenance requirements that were previously supported using a set of AML scripts and ArcInfo Workstation.
With ArcInfo Workstation entering retirement, it was time for Community Transit to migrate its workflow to a modern platform. After reviewing the existing workflow and scripts, we provided recommendations for improving the data maintenance process. We then developed an ArcGIS Desktop Add-in written in .NET that provided a set of custom editing tools for maintaining bus routes and stops called Community Transit Route Editor. The GIS data produced by Community Transit is used in a number of other applications that have very specific requirements to how that data is structured. The Community Transit Route Editor includes an extensive set of attribute and geometry validation checks that help ensure that as the data is updated it is in compliance with those requirements.
